16th - 18th MARCH 2012 Photographs and some Video
We were invited by the West Midlands DA, to provide entertainment on Saturday night at their St Patrick's Meet.
Everybody did their own thing on the Friday and on Saturday there was a choice of walks, either with Stan and Judy, or a short walk (!) with Don and Von. It was a really good turnout and there were more than 60 vans in total, 7 from our own Midland Folk Group,13 adults plus 3 children, a few from the south west and a few from other sections.
The MUGS who are now our own ukulele band entertained us for part of the evening with a selection of Irish Folk songs,
There was a raffle in the evening which was drawn on Sunday Morning. All in all the evening was a great success.
We were made to feel very welcome by West Mids DA.

BECKFORD
23rd - 26th MARCH 2012 Photographs and some Video
What a lovely weekend, Beckford Village hall is just off the A46 Tewkesbury Road, and as it was our AGM we had a turnout of approx 32 units from various sections.
On the Friday, we started the weekend off with soup and a roll, followed by a selection of dances and entertainment spots, from our members,
On Saturday, with fantastic weather, we had our coffee morning outside, followed by a private meeting for the folk group council. A few members stayed on the field and enjoyed the glorious weather, while others went off to do their own thing, There was a bus service to Tewkesbury, and a short walk organised by John Jackson.
The walk with John Jackson started at the village hall, we turned left down Courtfarm lane, past the pathway leading to the church on our right, past Wing house then we followed a path taking us around Beckford Nature Reserve. A few of those on the walk, took the the opportunity to pop into Beckford Silk, printers, and dyers since 1975, On the walk back we followed the path around the beautiful parish church of St John the Baptist, the church was originally constructed in the 12th century,
On Friday afternoon there was music practice on the field, accompanied by some of our own Ukelele band.
In the evening it was an American supper where everyone brings a plate of food to share, followed by a full list of callers and individual acts to complement the evening.

20th - 22nd APRIL 2012 Photographs and some Video
A very successful meet and we had 14 units attending plus many visitors.
Two varieties of soup with rolls were on offer Friday night and was consumed very quickly. Stan Witton was MC for a night of entertainment and dance.
Saturday a number of members went to play ukulele with the Severnside Ukulele Strummers Association at St George's park and a craft workshop was held in the hall. The evening began with an American supper which was enjoyed by all of us. Not much left for the chickens next door! John Jackson was MC for the evenings entertainment of song and dance. We had a wonderful folk dance display by eight young members coached by Wendy Collins and Amy gave us a tap dance display. Young members are very welcome to camp with us. Bring your grandchildren. A surprise visit by Jake The Peg (John Tandy) gave us an hilarious three legged dance display. The evening was rounded off by songs from our mass band. Come and join in. We play ukulele, guitar, kazoo, rattle, drum or anything that makes a noise.
Sunday after tea some of us went off for a ramble and others made their weary but happy way home.

ASTLEY
4th - 7th MAY 2012 Photographs and some Video
A good turnout considering the weather in the preceding week. We had 20 units. The evening was started with soup and rolls, provided by Liz and Von, MC George Illsley entertained us with a few of his own songs and stories while organising an evening of song and dance. Spots included singers, whistles and a performance by our mass band. So many joined in that the audience was reduced to four. The band follows the Skiffle idea from the Easter Meet where you can play anything that makes a noise.
On Saturday there was a choice of music workshops (melodeon, whistle, banjo) and decorate a T-shirt which was very popular with the younger members. They produced some impressive designs.
On the evening an American Supper was enjoyed by all. Bob Small, our MC for the night, hosted a varied programme of dance, song and entertainment. We are getting more people doing spots each meet. The highlights were Lily playing banjo and the first performance of The Ukelettes, our younger members ukulele band.
Sunday there were more music workshops and T-shirts to decorate. The sun came out as if by command for our evening BBQ. The following entertainment was up to the usual standard with a stunning performance by The Ukelettes who are coached by Julie Eaton. We also had a first performance from our 'Midland Purple Band' which hopefully will develop into our dance band.
Stan Witton had lost his keys on Saturday night and after much searching they were found in Judy's 'secret' coat pocket. "I didn't put them there", they both said. The story was related in a song written by Liz which was sung to Stan and Judy after the break. Look for it in the videos.
A very successful weekend which was the first meet stewarded by Liz and Brian. Thanks for all your hard work.

WOLVERLEY (Wolverly CofE Secondary School)
18th - 20th MAY 2012 Photographs and some Video
Another successful meet stewarded by Wendy & John at Wolverley School with more new members joining us.
Friday night started with a very popular Beetle Drive organised by Wendy. Our MC for the night, Roy, arranged a mixed programme of song and dance.
Saturday, after morning tea, members could join a walk, stroll down to the canal (and pub) or just chill out with friends. On the afternoon a whistle workshop, run by Di and John, was very popular with all our younger members. A practice for our dance band, The Purple Band, led by John aided by Di and Gay followed this workshop. The evening started with an American supper. Everyone must have been hungry because it soon disappeared. The Jackson Trifle went down a treat. I'm not sure what secret ingredients they put in the alcohol but it was very nice. Many birthday cards were handed out to members from all of us in the Area.
Allan was MC for the evening which opened with a performance of The Ukulettes (our younger ukulele band). After an evening of dance, to both live and recorded music, and and entertainment. The night was rounded off by a performance from the Midland Ukulele Group Strummers (MUGS). Bring a ukulele and join in - tuition and help is always available.
Sunday, after morning coffee, some cycled, took the dog a short walk or just chatted to friends before making their weary but happy way home.

15th - 17th JUNE 2012 Photographs and some Video
A good turnout considering the wet weather with units from Midland and North Central. We also had a new couple join us after reading about us on our web site. George worked really hard sorting us out onto a very boggy site
Friday evening had been intended to run as a sing song in the pub but it was full of people watching the football. Some of us found a cosy outside shelter and sang and played in there until the pub cleared. Then it was into the lounge for a well earned pint (or two).
On Saturday there was a Folk festival and small Hoard display in Lichfield and many went to have a look. On the evening we had the local hall for our evening entertainment which included the usual mixture of dance and spots with Wendy as MC
Two highlights were Mark singing for the first time aided by Amy & Molly plus the Half Cut Barber Quartet (Half Cut because there were only two in the quartet!).
Sunday after morning tea some went to the pub for Sunday lunch and then home, slightly damp but happy.

20th - 23rd JULY 2012 Photographs and some Video
The field on the Friday was really wet, the hard standing reserved for the motorhomes, caravans took their chance on the field, Don and George did a great job getting everyone sited.
The barn had been arranged for the evening dances and entertainment, made quite a change from the village halls that we are accustomed to. A selection of dances were called in the barn on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening.
On Saturday we were lucky enough to have the use of a generator, we used it for the kettle and a single floodlight.
The weather was so good on Sunday that we had our coffee morning outside the barn. The evening session started outside as the weather was really nice, and later we went inside for more dancing and entertainment.

10th - 12th AUGUST 2012 Photographs and some Video
A well attended meet stewarded by Bob & Noreen at this new venue for us. The sun shone down baking us unlike the potatoes we were having for tea. A minor problem that we overcame. There was a good turnout and it proved to be a lovely weekend.
The evening's entertainment included debut performances from Rachel, Lance and Richard. We look forward to more from these three.
Saturday, after morning tea, we had a very pleasant band practice out in the sunshine. After lunch a gentle walk to see the nice old fashioned style of town with lots of little shops. The evening celidh was very good with many people queuing up to do a spot. Our MC Allan did well organising these and the dances. We had dances called by George, Wendy, Joyce and John.
We are steadily increasing the number of dances called to live music from our Purple Band. All musicians are welcome.
On Sunday, after morning coffee and fee payments, there was a meeting to discuss our arrangements for Easter 2014. Well under way but some coordinators are still required.

31st AUGUST - 2nd SEPTEMBER 2012 Photographs and some Video
The sun shone down as we arrived at this pleasant site with views of the Malvern Hills. Stan and Judy were our stewards for the weekend. We were pleased to see Hilary,Mick, Hilda and Kevin for the first time this year.
Friday night we started with a skittle competition in the hall which was won by John Collins. There were two booby prizes for the lowest scores but names are withheld to protect their reputations. The skittles were followed by our usual dances and entertainment.
Saturday, after morning coffee, there was a choice of a walk with Judy or Ukulele and band practice on the field. After lunch we had the Grand Boules Competition organised by Stan. After many games (taken very seriously by some and not by others) Judith and Mick won by a narrow margin to take the prize and special inflated cup.
Our MC for Saturday evening was Liz making her debut performance both as MC and calling a dance. Obviously she will be working hard at all our future meets!
On Sunday morning after tea we had a Rapper workshop from Shirley Bird using rapper swords brought by Mick Falk. We now have two sets for future use and hopefully we will run workshops at all our meets.
Our visitors from other DAs said how much they enjoyed the weekend and promised to come again.

SHATTERFORD
21st - 23rd SEPTEMBER 2012 Photographs and some Video
We left home and the rain came down. Luckily it did not put any one off and we had a good turnout with some new faces.
Friday night began with the now traditional soup and rolls followed by an evening of song and dance with MC George. Visitor John Lovekin gave us a couple of tunes on his melodeon and Mike and Janice gave us a couple of songs.
Saturday came and the sun came out all day! After morning coffee there was a choice of a walk, visit to the Scarecrow Festival at Alveley or the Steam Rally on the Severn Valley Railway. Others also visited Kidderminster or Bridgnorth. Lots to do in this area. Those of us left had a music session on the field in the sun.
Saturday evening began with an American supper. You have to be quick because the best bits disappear quickly. Stan was MC for the evening Celidh. We had an Appalachian Dance display by a team which included Jo Watkin and her daughter. Liz sang a wonderful song she had written herself. There were so many spots there was no time for Ukuleles at the end. I will have to see about that next time.
Rapper sword (also known as the "Short Sword" dance) is a variation of sword dance that emerged from the pit villages of Tyneside in North East England, where miners first performed the tradition.
Sunday came and after coffee and fee payment we had a Rapper workshop from Shirley Bird. Why do we all forget which is left or right? Time to go home and the rain came back.

LITTLE WITLEY
5th - 7th OCTOBER 2012 Photographs and some Video
Ten units attended our Little Witley Meet but we had lots of evening visitors. All Hard standing,
a pleasant change to some of the fields this year. Wendy was MC on Friday night and the talent was tremendous. Two of our visitors, Jill and Phil sang their own compositions. There were lots of acts, to keep us entertained.
Saturday was sunny with lots to do in the hall, starting with coffee morning followed by a choice of crafts music practice or just a chat. A selection of craft work done in the daytime by the younger members. On Saturday afternoon, Freda and Mervyn entertained us with recorder duets.
Our previous Chairman's wife, Gay, liked cooking and so every year we have our annual tea and cakes. Very enjoyable!
This was followed, luckily not too quickly, by an American Supper, which we had with all our visitors. Noreen was MC, her first time, on Saturday night and once again it was a very lively social evening. We were delighted that Malcolm was able to call. John Jackson called "First Aid" one of his own dances.
Our MUGS performed and we had new members in the group. The evening finished with a skiffle session which was great fun.
Our thanks to John and Wendy Collins who stepped in to steward at the last moment.

BECKFORD

What a fantastic Halloween Meet at Beckford! The theme is Halloween with Crafts Music & Dancing
We had friends from North Central, South West and Home Counties making a total of 25 units plus all our visitors on Saturday night. Early arrivals on Thursday had the task of decorating the hall. Friday was blustery and cold outside but warm and friendly inside. We had soup and rolls as a starter to a lovely night of dancing and spots managed by our new MC, Mark.
Saturday saw face painting, mask making, crafts, a treasure hunt, a spoons session, band practice, a rapper workshop and a uke get together.
But then came Saturday night and WOW, what can I say - just look at the photos and videos.
The Halloween costumes were so good that we couldn't recognize our fellow campers. The American Supper was great, John J was a very nattily dressed MC and he was able to fill the night with star turns and callers. Our Purple Band played for some dances and Derek (SW) played for the rapper display. Our MUGS finished the night. Many many thanks to all who participated and to John and Wendy for being such imaginative stewards.

What a super week-end we had. Gay and Alan were our stewards and did a splendid job!
We had soup and rolls on the Friday evening, followed by a full evening with games and quizzes not to mention Bill and Diane encouraging novice line-dancers. Saturday's weather was awful but there was something for everyone in the hall, music practices and crafts thanks to Gay and Wendy. Stan and Judy celebrated their Golden Anniversary and we presented them with an aptly named rose bush and card. This was followed by an American Supper with a celebratory cake and wine courtesy of the happy couple who were MC's for the evening.
With lots of visitors we had a super time with songs old and new and plenty of dancing. After coffee morning on Sunday there was a meeting to discuss Easter 2014 followed by a Committee meeting before we all departed.
